As a branch of the Sheriff’s Office, the mission of the Spartanburg County Detention Center is “to protect the public by securely detaining individuals who have been arrested and accused of committing various offenses against Spartanburg County citizens.”
The goal of the detention center is to ethically and legally provide a secure, sanitary and safe place of pre-trial incarceration in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible, while ensuring inmates receive humane, respectful and professional treatment from detention personnel. Sending a Mail
The only acceptable form of incoming / outgoing personal correspondence will be in the form of a postcard. The postcards can be plain or pictured. Personal incoming letters will no longer be accepted.
All postcards must have a complete return name and address. The only exception to this will be privileged mail.
To send mail to an inmate in Spartanburg County Jail, address your postcard as follows:

All incoming mail, with the exception of privileged mail, must be in rectangular postcard form. Postcards are to be at least 3.5 x 5 and no larger than 4.25 x 6, written in black or blue ink. Postcards must have a complete return name and address. Postcards can be plain or pictured. This is to ensure the safety and security of jail facilities, inmates, and staff.
Acceptable STANDARD Postcards
- Metered or stamped
- Minimum size requirements: 3.5 X 5 inches
- Maximum allowable postcard size: 4.25 X 6 inches
- Stamps are removed prior to the inmate receiving the mail
Unacceptable Postcards will be returned to sender. Types of unacceptable postcards include but are not limited to:
- Greeting Cards, Holiday Cards, and Birthday Cards
- Defaced or altered postcards including adding additional layers or backing
- No plastics or wrappings on postcards
- Postcards with glued or taped material
- Postcards marked with paint, crayons, glitter, cloth, string, or magic markers
- Postcards with labels or stickers, including address labels (excluding postage stamps)
- Postcards with watermarks or stained in any manner
- Postcards depicting nudity, obscenities, criminal activity, weapons, or gang references
- Depictions containing writing, images, or references that may incite violence, riots, racism, or threaten the security of any Spartanburg County Detention Facility
- Oversized postcards
Sending Money
Cash, credit cards or debit cards can be used to deposit money into an inmate's account by using the kiosk located in the lobby of the main Jail at 950 California Ave.
This kiosk is open for use, 7 days a week, and a 24 hour a day. A transaction fee of $3.00 is deducted from the total amount of cash deposited. The money is immediately added to the inmate's account.
Inmates may also receive funds directly into their account over the internet via credit card transaction with McDaniel Supply Company.

The Facility does not accept cash through the US Postal Service.
Phone Calls
The Spartanburg County Detention Facility provides inmates access to telephone services through a contractual relationship with a third-party vendor which currently is GTL - Global Tel.
All telephone calls after the initial free telephone call have to be made collect.
Access to the telephone is not a right, but rather a privilege, and as such, this privilege may be regulated and/or terminated accordingly.
The jail's vendor, GTL - Global Tel* Link., will allow an inmate's first collect telephone call to go through free. After that, anyone wishing to accept telephone calls from an inmate will have to contact GTL - Global Tel* Link directly and establish an account with them. Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Detention Facility utilizes a Video visitation system for all general inmate visits with friends and relatives, in order to schedule a visit, friends and relatives should contact Lattice Customer service at (904) 497-4707 or via the internet at http://47.49.181.122/NetVisitScheduler/Login to create an account and start scheduling visits.
Visitors should be present at the jail at least thirty (15) minutes prior to the scheduled visit to Check-in.
All visitors, with the exception of small children, must have a picture identification (a driver’s license or state identification card).
All visitors are expected to act in an orderly manner and that they are to dress appropriately.
All Visitors are subject to search.
The following shall be basis for termination and/or refusal for visits:
1. Security concerns
2. Failure to produce identification
3. Disruptive/disorderly behavior
4. Not on the inmate’s approved visitor’s list
5. Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including prescription medications
6. Refusal to submit to a search
7. Use of profanity
8. Lack of available space
9. Failure to conform to the required dress standards

How Often Can I Visit?
Generally, an inmate detained in the Spartanburg County Jail is granted Two (2) 30 minute visitation time slots per week, as available.
