Inmate Search

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation website hosts an inmate search database through which an inmate can be located. You can search for an inmate by entering either their offender ID number or their full last name and first name (or the first two letters of the first name.)

Sending a Mail

At California Highway Patrol Lockup and other facilities at security level 2 or higher, all letters will be photocopied, and these copies will be delivered to inmates. A maximum of three 8 ½ x 11-inch pages (front and back) of each mailing will be delivered. Any additional items, such as cash, checks, postage stamps, or prepaid envelopes will be discarded.

All mail should be addressed as such:

Inmate's full name
Inmate's state identification number (7 digits)
Name of Facility or Institution
Address and Zip Code

Address:

California Highway Patrol Lockup
PO Box 942898, Sacramento, CA, 94298
916-657-7261

Sending Money

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation directs family and friends to deposit funds into an inmate’s account through Jpay. Cash, checks, and money orders should not be mailed to the facility. Funds can be deposited in person at the facility as well. Be aware that a percentage of all funds transferred to an inmate will go to paying legal fees if they exist.

Phone Calls

Inmates at California Highway Patrol Lockup are allowed to make calls through the system. Calls can only be made if there is money in the inmate’s account. Family and friends should create an account to deposit the funds, as well as receive calls from the inmate. An inmate must put those they wish to call on an approved caller list, so make sure that your inmate has the phone numbers of all they wish to keep in touch with.

Be aware that calls will be monitored by California Highway Patrol Lockup staff.

Visiting Rules

Visitations at California Highway Patrol Lockup are allowed on Saturdays, Sundays and state holidays. Visitors should contact the administration at 916-657-7261 for more details on visitation schedules for each offender.

A dress code is required, instructing that visitors be covered from the neck to knees with clothing that is not see-through, revealing, or contains offensive symbols or words. Watches and wearable technology devices are not allowed (i.e. Apple watches).

All new visitors or visitors renewing their application must apply online before visiting an inmate. In-state applications should allow for at least 30 days processing. Visitors are allowed to visit multiple offenders if they are immediate family. Non-immediate visitors (fiance, girl/boyfriend, friend, neighbor, and non-immediate family members) can visit one offender.
