Sending a Mail
Inmates are allowed to send as many letters as they wish as long as they use pre-stamped envelopes from the commissary.
Letters weighing more than seven ounces or mailed to another country require additional postage. Prisoners must have sufficient funds on their books to cover the extra cost.
All incoming and outgoing mail will be opened and inspected for contraband and may be read for security reasons. Mail is distributed Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Letters from public officials, attorneys, or courts are considered privileged if the mail is marked "Privileged" or “Legal Mail” and the envelope displays an appropriate letterhead with the name the attorney or sender.
Sending Money
If you want to send an inmate money, you will need to use one of the following methods.
- Money order
- Cash
- Certified or cashier's check

- Look up the prisoner's Sheriff's Office prisoner number (SO#) online or by calling 385-468-8400.
- Be sure to write the prisoner's SO# on both the envelope and the payment method (if applicable)
- Write the prisoner SO# and your return address on the envelope. Both are required.

Phone Calls
Inmates will normally have access to collect calling only from 7 AM to 9:30 PM. Phone calls are limited to 15 minutes.
Inmates are not allowed to receiving incoming calls.
The receiver of the call will be responsible for paying for the call.
Visiting Rules
Prisoners are allowed one thirty-minute visit on each assigned visiting day with a maximum of two visitors present. The thirty-minute time limit will be strictly enforced.
- If you are visiting at the Metro Jail, you must arrive and be inside the lobby at least 30 minutes prior to the time you would like to visit or are pre-scheduled to visit. Visitors arriving after the visiting cutoff will be scheduled for the next available visit.
- Prisoner workers (kitchen, server, etc.) will not be allowed visits during their scheduled work hours. The prisoner is responsible for notifying visitors of housing location changes or work assignments.
- Prisoners at the Metro Jail are permitted two (2) visits per week, one visit per visiting day. Three (3) visitors will be allowed to attend. Children under the age of 12 months do not count as a visitor. Children 17 years and under, must be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian.
- Every visitor 16 years of age or older must have a government issued ID (Driver’s License, State ID, Passport, or Consulate Card.) School IDs will not be accepted as valid identification.
- Visiting hours are from 9 AM – 9 PM. Each visit lasts thirty minutes. No visiting is permitted during meal times from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.
- Visits for may be scheduled up to six days in advance by calling 385-468-8400.
- There will be times when a prisoner is unavailable or refuses a visit. Visits may also be delayed or canceled due to incidents in the Jail.

How Often Can I Visit?
