The Multnomah County Inverness Jail (MCIJ) is a medium security facility located in East Portland that opened in 1987. It is a direct-supervision open layout with each dorm housing up to 75 inmates at a time.

MCIJ houses adults in custody for Multnomah County who have qualified for specific housing classifications, as well as state and federal inmates being held as part of a cooperative regional transportation program.

According to the jail’s webpage, “The Corrections Division is committed to providing effective detention, rehabilitation, and transition services to adults in custody.”

Staff provides inmate assessments, classification services, mental health, and addiction treatment programs, laundry services, commissary, transportation to and from court or other facilities, and release transition assistance.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is focused on looking for efficiencies and improving outcomes for the betterment of the adults in custody to shorten jail stays and reduce recidivism.

Sending Money

All money deposits are made through TouchPay. Deposits can be made online at www.touchpayonline.com or over the telephone at 1-866-232-1899, or at one of the kiosks located in the lobby at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail, or the downtown courthouse.

You will need the inmate's SWIS ID number, and the Multnomah County pay location code which is: 297204.

Phone Calls

Inmates have access to a listing of free calls to public defenders, official agencies, parole and probation officers and certain private attorneys in each housing area. Calls made to any of these numbers are free of charge.

Each call is automatically charged at the designated rate per call to the phone number, which accepts the collect call.

Each personal call is programmed to last no more than fifteen minutes.

Visiting Rules

If you want to visit an inmate in Multnomah County Jail, the inmate must put you on their visiting list prior to your visit.

Visiting hours depend on the following:

The day of the week.
Where the inmate is housed.
The inmate's sex.
Whether or not it is a holiday.

You will need to contact the inmate you wish to visit to find out these details so you know when you can visit.

Visiting is on a first come, first served basis. You should plan on arriving at least thirty to sixty minutes prior to the visiting session you plan to attend. The popular times for visiting are the earlier evening sessions.

At Inverness jail, you may experience a line of people waiting to sign up for visits. An inmate may have a maximum of 3 social visitors per visit, including children. An inmate has only two visit periods per week (from Sunday to Saturday).

Each visit has a maximum length of thirty minutes. Visiting is subject to space availability.

Steps to visiting an inmate:

  1. Before you approach the visiting window to sign up for a visit, complete a “service request form” for each person visiting.
  2. Report to the window with your completed service request form(s), each visitor’s identification, and with each visitor present. The officers must see each visitor before sign-up may occur.
  3. All adult visitors must present current, valid, government-issued picture identification. Accepted Identification.

All visitors, including attorneys and official visitors, must be fully dressed in appropriate, conventional clothing which is not unduly provocative, suggestive, or revealing and does not resemble offender attire.
