The Summit County Jail in Summit County, Ohio is a maximum-security facility. Because the inmates in this jail range from low level, misdemeanor offenders to those being held for violent crimes like robbery, rape, and murder, the security level has to be as high as is it would be in any maximum-security state prison.
The Summit County Jail is classified by the State of Ohio as a “full service” detention center. That means it is operated twenty-four (24) hours a day, three hundred sixty-five (365) days a year. It is, therefore, required that the facility be properly staffed for the safety and protection of the inmates and staff twenty-four (24) hours a day.
The Summit County Jail is located between South Street and Crosier Street off the Grant Street/Wolf Ledges exit of Rt. 76 in Akron, Ohio.

Sending a Mail
Letters and four standard pictures are accepted mail for inmates. The jail will not accept glitter, crayon, marker, or colored pencil drawings, tape, staples, stickers, perfume/cologne sprayed on letters, obscene or nudity of any kind in photos or drawings depicting gang or criminal activity, glue, and rubber ink stamps.

Postcards
The Summit County Jail allows inmates to receive pre-metered postcards like the type purchased from the post office. They may also allow certain photo postcards as long as they have not been tampered with or contain images that may be considered to be obscene or violent in nature.
Newspapers
Local or national newspapers may also be mailed to the inmate as long as they are mailed directly from the newspaper publisher.
Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
Books are allowed to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address above.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the jail’s standards will be disposed of.
Sending Money
To send money to an inmate in Summit County Jail, there is an Access Secure Deposit kiosk located in the lobby of the jail which accepts cash or credit cards. The lobby kiosk is available for cash or credit card transactions 7 days a week from 7am-11pm.
There is no limit to the amount of money you can put on an inmate’s account.
Phone Calls
Inmates generally have access to a phone from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day. All calls are collect unless inmate sets up a debit telephone account. Unless inmate uses the debit account, the call will be billed to the person receiving the call.
To receive inmate collect calls on a cellular phone, you must first set up a pre-paid account through the phone service vendor ICS Solutions at 1-888-506-8407 or on the web at www.icsolutions.com
You can also set up a debit phone account for an inmate. Once the payment is received from his commissary account or from outside deposits, the inmate may call any allowed telephone number using these funds.
Inmate calls from the jail are collect calls and you can simply refuse to accept the calls. To refuse to accept a call, just hang up.
Visiting Rules
Visitors can schedule visitation with an inmate on the internet at www.icsvideovisit.com or in the kiosk located in the front lobby of the Summit County Jail. Visitation must be scheduled 2 business days in advance. Visitors must arrive 15 minutes in prior to visitation or they will be denied access.
You must have a valid I.D. to visit inmates. Any minor under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. They must have the minor child’s birth certificate or guardianship papers.
Visitation is approximately 25 minutes long.
