Sending a Mail
Inmates may receive letters, legal mail, and publications from publishers only, which are reviewed to determine whether they are obscene or constitute a danger to safety and security.
To write to an inmate, you need the inmate’s name and DOC number and the name and address. You can look up an offender's DOC number and location on the DOC website.

Offenders are allowed unrestricted access to legal representatives and courts through the mail. Only that mail to or from an offender which is clearly identified as legal mail is treated as such. It is the responsibility of the sender to indicate that the correspondence is legal mail.

Visiting Rules
To visit an inmate, you must find out from the inmate when their visitation is. The jail staff will not release the visitation schedule of an inmate, so you will need to obtain this information from the inmate.

Visitors must sign in at least 15 minutes before their scheduled visits.
Inmates are allowed no more than one visit per day. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian, unless they are visiting a parent.
All visitors must have acceptable identification. This includes a driver’s license with picture identification, military ID, or another verifiable picture ID.
Any visitor who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to visit. Inappropriate behavior, including the use of profanity will not be permitted. No weapons will be permitted.
Violation of the above restrictions may cause the visit to be canceled or terminated, and visiting privileges may be suspended by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department.
