Mail must be sent abiding by the following guidelines:

All incoming and outgoing mail is scanned and inspected for contraband

Inmates are not allowed to receive any type of consumable items from outside the jail facility—including food or beverages.

Mail addressed to an inmate who has been transferred or released will be returned to the sender providing there is a return address. If no return address is listed, the mail will be destroyed.
Sending Money
Money may be dropped off for an inmate and put on his or her account.
A KIOSK to deposit funds is available in the public vestibule just inside the main entrance to the Saint Joseph County Jail building. Funds deposited into the KIOSK will immediately show up in the inmate’s account.
Checks or money orders that are mailed to the inmate are promptly deposited into the inmate’s account.
Only send money orders or checks issued to the inmate through the mail. Never send cash through the mail.
Phone Calls

In the event of an emergency situation, however, the Correctional Officer will take the name and phone number and allow a return call.

Visiting Rules
All inmate visitation is on an appointment format only.
To visit you need a government-issued ID, and you need to dress appropriately.
The Saint Joseph County Jail staff will turn anyone away who is not dressed appropriately for a visit.
- Wear clothes that are not revealing.
- Don't wear see-through material.
- Have all undergarments covered (males and females) and avoid a lot of cleavage.
- Shorts and skirts should reach mid-thigh.
- Sleeves should be at least half-way to your elbow.
The following types of clothing are also prohibited:
Clothing promoting gang affiliation.
Anything displaying drugs, weapons or profanity.
Clothing depicting anything obscene.
