Inmate Search

If someone you know is serving time in jail, you can search the Ada County Jail inmate roster here. You can search for his or her name, or browse through current arrests.

This inmate list does not include juvenile offenders. This database is updated every 24 hours so recent changes in the status of inmates may not appear in this online database.

An Inmate status can only be confirmed in person or by phone. Call (208) 577-3000 for information.

Sending a Mail

Incoming mail must list the full name and address of the sender and the inmate. Improperly addressed mail will be returned. Mail to an inmate should include:

Inmate’s full name
Inmate’s JID number

C/O Ada County Jail
7210 Barrister Dr.
Boise, ID 83704

Inmate mail will be checked for contraband, money, escape plans and any writing that may jeopardize the security of the facility.

Inmates may receive written letters and standard photographs. Polaroid photographs, stamps, envelopes, and other forwarded items are not allowed.

Mail or publications containing images or depictions of sexual situations, nudity or sexual acts are prohibited. In addition, mail cannot contain:

  • Intimidating or harassing statements
  • Gang-related writings or drawings
  • Messages (codes) that are not easily understood
  • Plans that violate state, local, federal laws, or jail rules
  • Plans to send contraband (such as drugs) in or out of the jail

At the discretion of jail staff, mail or publications containing unauthorized references or material may be refused, confiscated, destroyed, placed in the inmate’s property or returned to the sender.

Inmates may receive newspapers, magazines, and books, but they must be received directly from a publisher or bookstore. Any subscription material received after an inmate leaves the jail will not be forwarded. Inmates are prohibited from subscribing to services or ordering merchandise.

Sending Money

There are two ways to deposit money to an inmate’s account:

  • In person – A kiosk at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office accepts deposits using cash and visa/debit cards.
  • Online – Visit Telemate to make a secure payment.

Phone Calls

Only inmates may make phone calls, but they cannot receive them. To call someone, an inmate simply dials the phone number. When receiving a call, you’ll first hear an announcement from an automated operator; “You are receiving a call from [inmate name], an inmate at Ada County Jail. Press one (1) to accept.”

If the inmate has no funds in his account, and is calling you for the first time, the call will be free for a brief period of time (less than a minute). This is to allow the inmate to inform you of where he or she is, and to explain how calls work from this facility. After this short call, the inmate will be placed on hold and you will be presented with the opportunity to:

  1. Pay (via credit card) to continue the current call.
  2. Deposit funds for the inmate to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to make future calls to any number.

Deposit funds to your own phone number to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to call your number in the future, but the funds will not be available for calling other numbers.
