McEver Probation Detention Center GA is one of Georgia’s most well-known and oldest prisons. It housed male and female inmates until women were moved to a separate prison.
McEver Probation Detention Center GA is walled and contains four large cell blocks, one maximum-security block, a Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm and a minimum-security firehouse. The prison contains Georgia’s only gas chamber and death row for male inmates.

Inmates can be sent packages quarterly through third-party vendors. There are a variety of different companies to choose from, some specializing in items by category such as shoes, vitamins or music. Others offer more general options such as packaged foods, clothing, etc.
Sending Money
There are several ways to send money to an inmate. One can use a lockbox, which has no service fee and is the best way to send a money order, cashiers check or personal check. Another option is an electronic funds transfer (EFT), which is a paid service but also is the fastest way to send money (1-3 days.) Three EFT companies are used: GTL, JPay, and Keefe.

Phone Calls
While no one can call an inmate on the telephone, inmates can make outgoing phone calls. The Georgia Department of Corrections utilizes the GTL system for phone calls, which allows family and friends to create prepaid accounts from which funds for the call will be taken for any received call.
