Inmate Search

If someone you know is serving time in Gwinnett County Jail, you can search for him or her in this Gwinnett County Docket Book. You can search the inmate books, or you can simply do an inmate search of the inmate’s first and last name.

When you click on an inmate’s name, you will see the following information:

Sending a Mail

All incoming mail to inmates, with the exception of legal correspondence, must be a postcard. Postcards are to be at least 3.5 × 4.25 inches and no larger than 4.25 × 6 inches, written in black or blue ink or pencil.

Postcards must have the sender's name and a complete return address. Postcards can be plain or pictured.

UNACCEPTABLE postcards will be returned to the sender. Types of unacceptable postcards include but are not limited to:

  • Greeting Cards, Holiday Cards, and Birthday Card
  • Defaced or altered postcards
  • Plastic or wrappings on postcards
  • Postcards marked with paint, magic markers or crayons
  • Postcards with stickers or labels including address labels
  • Postcards with watermarks or stained in any manner
  • Postcards with any biohazards, including lipstick and perfumes
  • Postcards depicting nudity, weapons or gang references
  • Oversized postcards
  • Postcards written in code

Non-Local Newspapers, Magazines, and Books

Magazines/non-local newspaper subscriptions and books will be accepted as long as they are mailed directly from the publisher or authorized retailer.  The jail does not accept packages from eBay or Amazon.

Hardbound books (including pamphlets and booklets) are also not accepted.

Sending Money

Money Orders may be mailed via the U.S. Postal Service to the inmate at the jail.

Only U.S. Postal Money Orders and Western Union Money Orders will be accepted.

If letters or photographs are contained in the envelope, all contents will be returned to the sender. Write the inmate’s name and ID number on the money order, address the envelope to the jail, and write “For Deposit Only” on the envelope.

Phone Calls

Gwinnett County Jail partners with Securus Technologies to provide inmates and their loved ones a chance to communicate. There are several options available:

AdvanceConnect™ is a prepaid calling account that puts you in control, allowing you to manage how much you spend on inmate calling.

You can add funds to this inmate-owned calling account that lets inmates pay for their own calls.

Direct Bill allows you to receive calls from inmates and have the call charges billed directly to you monthly.

This option is best suited for attorneys, bail bondsmen, and friends and family of inmates. A credit check is required to qualify.

Visiting Rules

Visitation information will not be provided over the telephone or by email. The inmate must inform all visitors of the date and time scheduled for visitation.

Visitation at the Gwinnett County Jail occurs every day except Wednesdays and Fridays.

It is the inmate’s responsibility to notify visitors of all scheduled dates and times. Visitors must present a valid picture ID to visit (a state-approved driver’s license, passport, or state issued identification card).

Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visit.

Each visit is limited to a maximum of 30 minutes.

Visitors will not be allowed to bring handbags, purses, bags, infant bags, car seats, strollers, cell phones, pagers, keys, lighters, cigarettes, knives, pens, pencils, sunglasses, hats, guns, explosives, etc. into the Jail.

The Reception Officer will not hold property for any visitors. Visitors will be instructed to secure items in their vehicles or in the pay lockers provided in the lobby.

Proper attire will be required for all visitors. Inappropriate clothing such as halter tops, swimwear, revealing clothing, sleepwear, or any clothing that may be deemed unacceptable will not be permitted.

Visitors who appear to be under the influence of any intoxicant or display unruly behavior will not be permitted to visit.

Visitors will be required to submit to a search of their person by Sheriff’s Deputies. Searches may be conducted by electronic means, physical pat down, or both. Failure or refusal to submit to a search will result in denial of visitation.
