Chief Mike Allen is currently the head of Polk county’s department of detention. The leadership is comprised of sworn/certified detention deputies, civilian support members, and sworn deputy sheriffs.
Chief Michael Allen leads the Department of Detention, which includes two detention facilities, the booking facility, county and statewide inmate transportation, courtroom security, court process service, and several inmate work programs.
In addition to providing inmate processing, security, housing, food, and medical services within the two jails, the members of the Department of Detention are also responsible for courthouse security, court processing services, inmate transportation services, and the inmate work program.

PCSO provides a collect-calling system for inmate use through a contract with Securus Technologies. The system allows inmates to make collect calls only. No incoming calls can be received by an inmate.

Visiting Rules
Inmates at Polk County Jail have the opportunity to visit with friends and family twice per week for one hour each day via the Securus video visitation system.
This high-tech system of communication will still allow the visitor and the inmate to see each other and to communicate, while increasing the safety of the visitors and the security of the jail.
Adults
Either a current and valid:
- state identification card
- military identification
- passport, or
- state driver license.
No photocopies will be allowed
Minors (under 18 years old):
All visiting minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and present either an original or certified copy of the juvenile’s birth certificate from “The Department of Vital Statistics,” that shows the names of the parents.
Certificates of birth from a hospital and birth certificates stamped “Not a Certified Copy,” or that lack the raised seal, are not considered proper identification. No photocopies will be allowed
While visiting the detention facilities, you must follow all visitation rules:
- Video visitation is held seven days per week at the Central County Jail and the South County Jail facilities. It is NON-CONTACT only!
- Video visitation for either jail is by appointment only. Appointments can only be made by visiting www.securustech.net.
- Two adults and one juvenile may visit each visitation day.
- Visitation will not be scheduled during an inmate's scheduled court appearance.
- All visiting minors must be supervised by an adult at all times.
- All visits with minors Monday through Friday will be held only after 4:00 p.m.
Visitors must be properly dressed before checking in to visit an inmate. Some clothing articles and accessories are prohibited (see list).
Note: Before entering the secure area of a facility, all visitors must remove their watches and jewelry. The only possession the visitor may take into the secure area of a facility is their identification and keys.
NO:
- See-through clothing
- Halter tops, tank tops or tops with spaghetti straps and/or that expose the midriff or cleavage (includes any sleeveless attire).
- Shorts or any other similar type of short outfit.
- Pants that do not cover the knees (Shredded areas at or above the knee are prohibited);
- Form-fitting outfits (tights, leggings, jeggings, leotards, etc.);
- Skirts or dresses that have slits at or above the knees and/or do not completely cover the knees;
- Inappropriate language, gestures or images on clothes;
- Swimsuits;
- Hats or other items covering the head;
- Sunglasses, watches, or other items of value, including electronic devices of any kind.
