The DC Central Detention Facility was founded in 1859. It was first situated on West Side’s Scranton Road. It then transferred over to 1901 D Street, SE, Washington, DC, 20001 back in 1904.
Since the 19th century, the Washington Division of Police was the law agency that his responsible for supporting the DC Central Detention Facility. It was not until September of 2007, when both the Washington Division of Police and the DC Central Detention Facility came together and ultimately created the Division of Corrections.

The DC Central Detention Facility is only a temporary, short-term facility for inmates. If you know or believe someone you know is currently being housed in the DC Central Detention Facility, you will need to contact the facility directly. Sending a Mail
The DC Central Detention Facility will allow inmates to receive letters from their loved ones back home. These letters will be monitored and examined by a staff member employed by the DC Central Detention Facility.
The DC Central Detention Facility has the right to refuse, dispose of, or return any letter that does not follow their strict guidelines.

Sending Money
Inmates in the DC Central Detention Facility will not really need money since at most they will be in the facility a month or two. But if they request you to send them funds, you can go down to the DC Central Detention Facility with a money order.
Phone Calls
All outgoing phone calls from the DC Central Detention Facility will be strictly collect calls. Collect calls will be the receiver's responsibility to pay for them. You will only get the collect call, if you have a landline phone and not a cell phone.
All calls from the DC Central Detention Facility are limited to 15-minutes.
